Now we're going to ask Russell a pretty story forward question, with which was what are the five steps you need to take in order to take control of your life? Now, before we get there, we want to thank our sponsors. We always want to thank our sponsors. Sponsors put food on my table at least, perhaps not on yours, but on mine. Now, Russell, welcome back to the show. Great to be back, Sam. We're excited to have you. So the question we put to you is this. You've written this book called one life to lead. It's about taking control of your life, becoming the architect and designer of your life so that you can achieve your best results. There are five steps to this process. Tell us what the five steps to this process are. Great,...

...thanks for giving me the opportunity to share the five steps of life design. Are Not intended to be a programmatic like. You must do all of these five steps in sequence. I want you to think of this book in these steps is references that you can come back to overtime to continue to flex the muscle and learn and integrate them into the fabric of how you live your life. And the first step is grounding stories with facts. I'd like to say we're crazy. We live in a world of crazy. We spend a lot of time in our head and those thoughts that tend to originate in our head don't always serve us, and those stories aren't always grounded in what actually has happened. They're not grounded in facts. So we grab stories that don't serve US and they tend to spiral and put us in a state of fear or a state of anxiety that, when we're aware of it, we can stop, pause and observe. So that's number one. Number two is establish your prince puples. Establish Your principles is about creating your code of nonnegotiables for how...

...you are going to make decisions in your life. You are going to be faced with so many in our face was so many opportunities for arduous decisions or conflict or opportunity. And what's the basis upon which you make decisions? Well, when you have your principles as the foundation of decisionmaking, it's a lot easier to move through difficult situations knowing that you're grounding them in a code that you've committed to. Number three is harness energy from the environment. As I've said to you before, I spent a lot of time some I have spent a lot of time with people that just don't give me energy or locations that don't give me energy or situations that don't give me energy, and I call that entropy, energy drain. Well, if I only have a hundred units of energy to spend a day, I want to spend it as much on how I move forward in growth and innovation then I want to in neutralizing the...

...energy that is being drained from me by people or places that ide. So awareness around what gives you energy and moving toward that to maximize it. Number four is get and stay in your zone of genius. Your zone of genius is that thing that you do that is so so unique for you that you you lose track of time people are so amazed and impressed. You could do it forever. You're in this state aflow. We spend about ten to fifteen percent of our time in our Genia zone, and it's not that being in your genea zone is a privilege or not a privilege. It's about understanding what it is really being committed to exploring to find it and unlock it, and aligning your career decisions to being in that place where you really can achieve your highest and best use. And number five is take action. That seems so obvious, but it is oftentimes the leap, the courage to leap, the...

...willingness to leap, that is the hardest for us to do because we're scared about what might be on the other side. But you're here today and listening to the show because you've probably taken leaps in your life and have landed. You have figured it out. The next time will be no different. But having a plan, thinking in terms of experiments, having courage to act is what ultimately will give you the learning that you need to continue to be the architect that you want to be. Those are the five steps of life. design. I love it, so let me recap for folks out there. I was taking some notes. First, tell yourself facts, not stories. That's look at the facts of the situation. Don't just tell yourself a narrative about something that happened and what it means or what the future might hold, but tell yourself the facts of the situation. Establish your principles. Make sure that you understand how you make decisions, why you make decisions, what's important to you, and establish your principles so that when you encounter a difficult situation,...

...you're not flailing, but you have a framework that you can rely on. Harness your energy, figure out what gives you energy and what doesn't give you energy. That is such a great way of framing it, and I give this advice to people all the time. Not Not, don't say I don't like sales or I don't like marketing, but find out what brings you energy. From their stay in your genus, own find and stay in your genius, own sty spend as much time doing things you're great at as possible. And then, finally, it's okay to be afraid. Courage doesn't mean a lack of fear. It means the presence of fear while you still take action. So you're never going to get rid of fear. You have to confront it, stare in the face and understand that no decision you make, almost no decision, is determinative of the rest of your life. You can always make a different decision to think of life as a series of experiments and take action. That sound about right, Russell. Perfect summary, Sam. Thank you. Thank you. All Right, folks, one life to lead. It's available. It's an available on Amazon, available on Amazon, available at your book store and if you're it's not your local bookstore, you can...

...ask them in the order it for you. Is it? And did you get into like Hudson and the airport bookstores? I did not, but it's in their database, so you can order it there, but it's not sitting on the shelves. You know, one step at a time, one step at a time, series of experiments.
